How to connect Asana
AdminBring the tasks of your Asana projects into Staffic and send the time your team tracks back as Asana time entries.
- Where
- Workspace > Settings > Integrations > Asana
- Who
- Admins, with access to the Asana projects.
- Plan
- All plans, including Free. Time back needs an Asana plan with time tracking.
Each Asana project you pick syncs into a Staffic project, from any Asana workspace you belong to. Its tasks become Staffic tasks, and tracked time goes back to Asana as time entries.
Connect Asana
Step 1: Click Connect
In Settings > Integrations, click Connect on the Asana card, then allow Staffic on Asana's page.
Step 2: Choose projects
Under Choose projects (1), set each project to New Staffic project, an existing project or Don't sync (2), then click Save.

Step 3: Check people and sync
The project waits for its first sync (1) and people with the same email are matched (2). Leave Send tracked time back (3) on and click Sync now (4).

What goes back
Staffic adds one Asana time entry per person, task and day, in minutes, for the linked project. It files the entry under the person when the connecting account may do that for them, as their time reviewer or an Asana admin; otherwise the entry belongs to the connecting account.
Asana time entries need an Asana plan with time tracking. If Asana refuses them, Staffic turns Send tracked time back off and the panel says: This Asana plan doesn't include time tracking, so sending time back was turned off. Tasks still import.
Rules for every task tool
- Sync
- Every 15 minutes, and right away when an admin clicks Sync now. Sync now allows 10 runs in 10 minutes per organization, across all tools.
- Tasks
- One way, from the tool into Staffic. A field changes in Staffic only when it changed in the tool since the last sync, so your edits in Staffic stay.
- Time back
- One entry per person, per task, per day in your organization's time zone, kept equal to Staffic's total for the last 31 days. Whole minutes, at least 1 minute. If a day's time drops to zero, the entry is removed.
- Which time counts
- Sessions that start and end inside the day, the same total the daily timesheet shows, manual time included.
- Approval
- Members who need timesheet approval send only the days where every session group is approved.
- Who writes it
- The account that connected the tool, with the person's name in the note (Tracked in Staffic by James Parker). ClickUp and Asana can file it under the person; see their pages.
- Desktop app
- Imported tasks show in the Staffic desktop app for the people they're assigned to. Tasks of people who aren't linked import without an assignee.
Common questions
Which Asana plans can receive time entries?
Plans that include Asana's time tracking. On other plans, tasks still import and the time stays in Staffic's timesheets and reports.
Can I turn time back on after Staffic turned it off?
Yes, once your Asana plan includes time tracking. Turn Send tracked time back on in the Asana panel and click Sync now.
Does disconnecting remove Staffic from Asana?
Yes. Disconnect revokes Staffic's access to Asana. Imported tasks stay in Staffic and time entries already written stay in Asana.
Tips
- Connect with an Asana admin, or the people's time reviewer, so entries are filed under each person.
